Amidst Baobabs and Diamonds

Shortly after beginning missionary work in Africa in 1946, Maryknoll was asked by the Vatican to assume responsibility for a new diocese in the Shinyanga Region of Tanzania. Over the years, more than fifty priests and brothers have labored to the build the church: both physically and spiritually. Today the fruits of their endeavors are witnessed in the vibrant praying communities to be found in twenty-five parishes. Three Maryknollers continue to announce the Gospel of Love among the baobab trees and diamond fields of Shinyanga.

Newest ordained Michael Hung Minh Dinh has been assigned to Ndoleleji, Shinyanga.. He hopes to work in Mwamalasa Center whicjh includes a few Catholic outstations but a majority  non-Christians..
   
  Daniel Ohmann comes from Greenwald, Minnesota. He is engaged in primary evangelization among the Wataturu tribe. Dan also oversees various development projects.
Donald Sybertz grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He is involved in evangelization through pastoral ministry in the Imalaseko section of Mwanhuzi parish and through research into Sukuma proverbs and traditions..

  Ed Schoellman recently returned to Africa. In semi-retirement he continues to accompany the people of Shinyanga with whom he worked for many years..
Ed Davis is spending his years in retirement to assist the local parish communities in their growth and development.
