Golden Jubilee - I never thought I'd make it. Put simply - it has been fifty years of blessings. My four years in the States after ordination allowed me an opportunity to become acquainted with parish life - its problems and opportunities - a good beginning to my priestly life. The assignment to Tanganyika, East Africa in 1955, could not have been better. What a privilege and blessing to work with and learn from the Wasukuma people in the Diocese of Shinyanga for nearly twenty-two years. I have many happy memories of those years. Yes, there were disappointments, failures, a lot of mistakes, but the gentleness of that people makes me forget the bad days. The apostolates in Kenya - city rather than rural ministries - afforded me new challenges and blessings. Fifty years - practically all of them in Tanzania and Kenya - no regrets. I would do it all again tomorrow, but hopefully I would avoid repeating the same mistakes. Now, in retirement in Kenya, I'm working on my Doctorate. Mine is in golf. The next fifty years are looking good. Maurice's Ministry Maurice's Biography |
