Where we Work What we Do |

A jubilee brings a deepening of gratitude to God for blessings and graces that have come to me and others through priestly ministry. Even a new priest understands that he is sharing in the very priesthood of Jesus. To look back, however on 40 years of priesthood, brings the Jubilarian priest to marvel at how the priesthood of Jesus has been lived out in him and experienced by him. A priest's work becomes insignificant when contrasted with what God has done in and through and with His priest. A priest cannot help but echo Mary's thought and emotion. "He who is mighty has done great things for me and holy is his name." The Jubilarian, in his heart, acknowledges those "great things" whether they are apparent or not to other People. St. Paul speaks of "forgetting the past and pressing on to what lies ahead." Paul does not deny his memories - they brought him joy. The Past gave Paul confidence that he had been chosen for and used in God's work of salvation. For Paul, the past was the foundation for what lay ahead. Paul is a good model for a Jubilarian. The Jubilee is an occasion of deep gratitude to God for 40 years of priesthood. It is a time for reverencing those years and for drawing encouragement from them for the future. We press on to whatever is ahead in God's Plan! |
