When I was a young brother, I remember seeing a slogan in the boiler room of our Bedford Novitiate that read: “It matters not who does the work, so long as the work is done”. At that time I thought this does not acknowledge someone. Who is the one getting the credit? Wasn’t it Anna in the movie-musical “Anna and the King of Siam” who sang, “Giving Credit where it’s due”? So how-come that slogan voids credit? Today, I see the wisdom in this slogan. I am one of a team of eight who work with recovering street children. We have frequent staff meetings for handling problems. Today that slogan makes sense to me. The sharing of all staff members makes decision-making easier, so giving credit where it’s due, give it to teamwork.
