The Republic of Mozambique
The Republic of Mozambique
The Republic of Mozambique
Mozambique, still recovering from a 17-year
disastrous civil war that ended in 1992, is located on the southeastern coast
of Africa. The capital city is Maputo, the currency is the Metical
and the official language is Portuguese.
Much of the Indian Ocean coastline is marshy, hot and tropical. Inland, and south of the Zambezi River, the lowlands are dry, while north of the river, more fertile conditions exist. Most of its economic strength is agriculturally based, and the country is still very dependant on foreign aid. For further information, see the article in the Columbia Encyclopedia.
