East Africa's Indian Ocean coast has been home to the Swahili people for over a thousand years – since the first Arabs traders arrived in their dhows. Maryknoll arrived in the Mombasa Diocese in 1980. Since then, fifteen Maryknollers have served in different apostolates ranging from parish ministry to teaching in college and secondary schools.

Two Maryknollers continue to serve the people in this Kenya coastal city through specialized ministries.
