PASADA is an acronym for "Pastoral Activities and
Services for people with AIDS in Dar es Salaam Archdiocese." Under the directorship of Fr. Rick Bauer, PASADA is
a social service agency providing care, prevention education, and treatment for the poor living with HIV in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
PASADA has a physician, a psychologist, a medical assistant, a clinical
assistant, a community health nurse, a staff nurse, a home care nurse, and a
laboratory auxiliary. A priority in the health care for those attending the
clinic is a careful diagnostic examination and subsequent treatment of the
many opportunistic infections and psychological needs associated with AIDS.
A small laboratory has been equipped to allow for simple routine testing.
Pharmaceutical supplies are obtained from donations received specifically
for health care. No charge is made to the patient. A pediatric HIV clinic
has been initiated under the supervision of a medical director and
assistance from a part-time pediatrician.
Individuals are primarily self-referred or referred for follow-up care
from one of the Dar es Salaam area hospitals or other NGO's. Presently,
PASADA is handling over 700 patient visits each week. 200 individuals each
month are receiving testing and counseling services.
